SUMMARY:Rumi Night 12 September\, with Jilani and Muiz
DESCRIPTION:Poetry\, Presence and Remembrance\n\n\nRumi Nights with Jila
ni and Friends:\nJoin Jilani live for readings of Rumi and other mystica
 l poetry\, accompanied by beautiful live music\, on guitar\, viola and p
ercussion. There will be times of Sohbet\, or Sufi teaching through soul
ful conversation. Jilani will also lead the group in chanting Zikr and o
ther sacred phrases in Arabic from the Sufi tradition.\nZikr means ‘re
membrance’ and refers to the Arabic phrase La illaha il’llah\, which
could be translated as “no God but God”\, “no reality except Unit
y”\, “all separation is illusion”. In practicing Zikr\, we practic
e remembrance of our inherent unity with the Divine\, recognising our hu
man tendency to forget. Chanting Zikr can be a powerful and heart-openin
g experience\, unifying a group and harmonising the atmosphere in a vibr
ation of grounded\, sacred\, loving connection.\nThe chants are simple a
nd easily learned\, not unlike kirtan or bhajan\, but rooted in the Sufi
tradition. Even if you don’t understand all of the words\, you will h
ave an embodied experience\, which many describe as inducing feelings of
joy\, inner peace and a deep sense of connection to the Beloved.\nThe Z
ikr journey can pass through times of high energy and ecstasy\, usually
ending in a space of stillness and silence\, resting in awe-filled exper
ience of Unity with All-That-Is.\nJilani is a member of the teaching cir
cle of the Sufi Ruhaniat International\, a Universal Western Sufi Order
in the Chisti lineage. She travels widely\, teaching in many countries i
ncluding Australia\, New Zealand\, India and the USA as well as across E
urope. Resident in the Calder Valley for 30 years\, she is happy to be a
ble to share her work near home as well. For the Rumi Café nights\, Jil
ani will be supported by other talented musicians\, including usually a
special guest. This time\, her special guest is Sheikh Muiz Brinkerhoff
from Santa Rosa\, California\, and the event takes place as part of the
weekend retreat 'Sweeping Out the Chambers of our Hearts'. You are welco
me just to attend for the Saturday evening.
